// My Story

I was born in the comunist Czechoslovakia in 1984.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes not so long after, at the age of 3. (I’m in my late thirties now so I’ve lived with this condition for well over 30 years.)

At the time of my diagnosis, there were no continuous glucose monitors available. No insulin pumps. My parents didn’t even have access to a glucose meter.

Learning how to have diabetes under control was very difficult in the late 80s and throughout the 90s. There was no on-line community. Access to practical tips was extremely limited.

During my teenage years I hated being a diabetic. I didn’t take care of myself. I didn’t have the know-how and the right tools to get this disease under control.

I remember I just wanted to be a “normal” kid at that time. And I acted like one. But I wasn’t.

It was a massive challenge for me to live with diabetes when I was a teenager. And it was an even bigger challenge for my parents

My HbA1c was as high as 13.3% when I was 14. I had to spend a lot of time in the hospital. I just couldn’t keep my blood sugars under control.

And if that’s how you feel right now, don’t worry, it’s OK. I feel you. And I want to encourage you. Don’t give up!

Over time I have been able to find the right resources. Diabetes on-line community, new diabetes technologies, and a number of mentors to whom I will be forever grateful for their advice.

I have gained the necessary knowledge and discovered the necessary tools and strategies. These helped me improve my blood sugar levels and diabetes control overall.

As a result, I built a successful professional career resulting in a senior management role at a reputable public accounting firm, KPMG.

In the past 5 years, I have been spending more time than ever before to further enhance my knowledge of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

I have familiarized myself with results of numerous studies, work of reputable researchers, and highly sophisticated diabetes technology.

This all led to me dramatically improving my “diabetes skill set”.

As a result, the quality of life significantly improved. I reduced my HbA1c further and I consistently achieve HbA1c of around 6% and time in range blood sugar over 90%.

I found my passion in various tools for diabetes management, such as continuous glucose monitors (CGM), insulin pumps, and automated insulin delivery systems.

I love to cook and make meals that taste great and don’t spike my blood sugar. I enjoy discovering new diabetes friendly recipes all the time and sharing them with my community.

Diabetes technology, eating right, and following a few simple rules of thumb literally changed my life. I can now say I control my diabetes. It doesn’t control me anymore.

In 2019, I started a YouTube channel called Type One Talks because I wanted to share what I learned with as many of you as possible.

On my channel, I share my favorite diabetes tips in short, practical, and actionable videos.

Soon after that, I decided to dedicate my life to helping, inspiring and supporting all diabetics.

It doesn’t matter if you are type 1 or type 2. It doesn’t matter if you were diagnosed yesterday or a long time ago.

I am looking forward to hearing your story. I would love to connect with you and share the best tips, tools, and strategies I know with you.

I would love to help you navigate your diabetes journey!
